Mega events help drive Arizona's tourism economy and provide a source of pride for all Arizonans. Working with Valley sports, business and tourism leaders, AZSTA has played a key role in securing and executing numerous mega events since State Farm Stadium opened in 2006.

The 2020 Cactus League season generated an estimated economic impact of $363.6 million, including a $213.7 million contribution to Arizona's Gross Domestic Product, before being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cactus League games in Arizona drew a total of 912,956 fans in 2020, an average of 6,568 per game

On April 3, 2107, North Carolina defeated Gonzaga 71-65 in the national final to secure its sixth national title. Two days earlier, North Carolina edged Oregon 77-76 and Gonzaga held off South Carolina 77-73 in the national semifinals.
